Handmade Guitars

We build custom, completely handmade guitars for professional and amateur musicians to their specifications, based on their playing style and preferred sound.

All of our instruments are completely hand carved and shaped in our workshop, using both classic and modern methods of lutherie. Our steel stringed instruments employ pre-war scalloped x-bracing, and we offer a wide variety of tone woods for tops, sides, and backs.

We take pride in providing our customers with guitars that  far surpass the quality of factory-made instruments, each with an individual personality and hundreds of hours of craftsmanship.

Currently, our available models for order are:

Parlor, Orchestra Model, Classical, Dreadnought, Electric, Electric Bass

The process all begins with a conversation, and selection of top, back & side tone wood, neck & fingerboard woods, rosette and bindings, tuning machines, and more.

We only build ten guitars per year, so please contact us to start designing a hand-built guitar of your very own.  We look forward to crafting a guitar that is a perfect fit for you.

Guitar Repair/Setup

Guitar Setup: Just like your own body and your car, your guitar needs regular checkups and tuneups.  When you have your guitar setup, we will examine your instrument and adjust the neck and the string height, paying close attention to the condition of the nut and the saddle, as well as checking the amount of relief provided by the truss rod. Then our adjustments are made within tolerances that are widely accepted and agreed upon by the guitar building and repair industry.  We will also adjust the “action” on your guitar to best suit your style of play and choice of strings.  You will be surprised at how much more “playable” your guitar becomes after we perform a setup.

Fret Dress and Recrowning (setup included): Another major factor in the “playability” of your guitar is the condition of your frets.  With our Fret Dress and Recrowning, we will first level your frets, eliminating any hard to play areas and/or buzzing, and then we will reshape, recrown, and polish the frets, for maximum ease of playing. Finally, we will condition the fretboard and do a complete setup, as described above.  Your frets will look and feel as good as new – often even better than new!

General Repairs and Upgrades: Whether you’d like us to install a pickup in your acoustic instrument, or replace/upgrade the existing electronics on your electric guitar or bass, we’re happy to give you a free estimate on the cost.  We also will conduct a wide variety of specific and unique repairs that your guitar may require (acoustic and electric), and, again are happy to put your guitar on the rack, come up with our best solution, and provide you with a proposed timeline and free estimate on the work.  Please use the form below to request a quote.

Who We Are

Greetings Guitar, Arts, Crafts, and Photography Enthusiasts! We are excited to help you put the finishing touches on your treasures and artistic creations, and/or chat with you about building you a custom guitar, or conducting repairs on your existing guitar.

Spamp’s Woodshop, a family business, was established in 2016 by Matt & Jenny Spampinato, and in 2018 we are thrilled to be joined by our nephew Mason Shelmire.  Our goal is to provide custom guitar and framing services for those interested in fine luthierie (guitar building/repair) as well as those who are enthusiastic about displaying their photography, artwork, and treasures in a creative, artistic, and thoughtful way.  We use the finest woods for our guitars, and archival, museum-quality materials and methods to handcraft our frames to guarantee our customers that they are getting the very best treatments for their treasured works. Spamp’s Woodshop products are artistic in their own right, and we enjoy partnering with other artists and musicians  to produce pieces worthy of being displayed on the walls of your home or businesses, and crafting instruments to be played on-stage or in your own homes.

We consider every project we undertake to be unique, so if there is some guitar design or custom framing service – whether it be rare materials or custom techniques – please contact us to discuss the many possibilities we can explore to suit your needs. Spamp’s Woodshop is located in Denver, Colorado, and we are happy to meet with clients in person or online to receive and deliver your materials and discuss options for all of our work.

Of course, Abby the Cat rules the roost!
